I HAVE A FRIEND WHO GOES CRAZY FOR TRIPLES now that my finals are over maybe i can finally pay attention to all of the things i've been procrastinating... I know like 4 triples songs.
about your project: i actually had to do something similar to that in 8th grade, only it had to be a formatted report about ancient rome. LOL. im going to be talking about west africa as a whole and not just nigeria if thats okay, because A) im mixed with ghanian heritage and i'd feel bad leaving it out and B) a lot of west african countries are honestly sisters, of course there are some differences once you properly do research but generally west african culture is a whole blend, so even if im talking about nigeria alone, there will be lots of overlap with other west african countries, such as togo (and even some north african countries like somalia).
i dont know exactly what youre looking for but i definitely think a big staple of nigerian culture (+ west africa as a whole) is our food 😁😁👍 fun fact, the restaurant and dining scene over there is drastically different than in the western world; they mostly rely on street food stalls and local eateries. of course, there is fine/formal dining, but the average person is more likely to pick up their dinner from a small, usually family-owned food stall. you can do research on the different types of food we have. but fried plantains and jollof rice are my favorite #Personally. what else. what else. clothing is also very big in west africa.... you HAVE to look up what a kente is. they are so pretty and were actually historically reserved for royalty!!! also, i own a gele!!! its a type of headwrap, its one of the comfiest things i own and are usually worn at weddings as a type of crown 😊😊 but we have a lot of other traditional clothing you can do research on, even if its just for fun. there are a lot of textile shops (similar to those stalls) in africa and nigerian fashion in general is so, so beautiful. Aghhh. i'd also argue music means a lot to us hello?! afrobeats is such a unique genre. my parents played a lot of burna boy when i was a little kid... fun fact, he won a grammy in 2021! slightly unrelated but i'd like to plug amaarae. she is an upcoming ghanian artists who reminds me a LOT of pinkpantheress. but thats not the subject right now. i dont know if any of this would help on a school-issued assignment, though... Sorry. Im just yapping. Um. we value respect and hospitality lot, especially to our elders!! its very common to bow when youre meeting someone older than you (as in, another nigerian) for the first time, and in my experience, your parent's friends become your honorary aunts and uncles. its normal to invite people you dont know very well to your house if they need a place to crash! christianity + islam is also deeply ingrained in west african culture... Okay.... theres lots of debates on that. Hhhg. i cant think of anything else. Yea. Yeah. OH! YEAH! and our names. names and oral storytelling are practically the pioneers of nigeria. personally, my legal name has several different parts. my first name means "grace" or "favorable", my middle name means "daughter of a chief" or "princess", and my last name means "powerful" or "strong". my nickname around the house means "first female born", with a prefix being added which means "royalty". but there are TONS of different names, like what day you happened to be born on, what tribe you come from, sometimes praising god, etc... perhaps you could do research on a naming ceremony! theyre super big deals!!! Again, i dont know if any of this was helpful but thank you soo much for asking anyways! please also note i only speak for one west african... Out of about a billion. So you really should do some research of your own just to to be on the safe side 🥹🥹 also, its fun anyways. I APPRECIATE U TAKING THE TIME TO REACH OUT! its not often i get to talk about my culture. which is a shame since i love it a Lot. i wish u luck on your work!!!
